How the Therapists Here Work

Different therapists here draw on different approaches, matched to what you need rather than a one-size-fits-all method.Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Looking at the connections between your thoughts, feelings, and actions to shift unhelpful patterns.Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and trauma-informed approaches. Building tolerance for difficult experiences without being ruled by them.Narrative and strengths-based approaches. Understanding your story on your own terms, not through a diagnosis-first lens.

What to Expect in Your First Session

Sessions run 50 minutes. There's no homework on day one, no pressure to have your whole story ready, and no judgment about where you're starting from. Your first session is mostly a conversation — what's going on, what you're hoping for, and whether the fit feels right.

Online or In-Person — Your Choice

Both are available at the same rate. In-person sessions take place at our St. Agatha office; online sessions happen by secure video from anywhere in Ontario. Many clients choose based on what fits their week, not because one is "better" than the other.

Common Questions

Is individual therapy right for me if I don't have a specific problem to point to?Yes. Many people start therapy for exactly that reason — a sense that something's off, without being able to name it precisely. That's a completely valid starting point.
How long does therapy usually take?It varies. Some people work with a therapist for a few sessions around a specific issue; others continue for months or longer. Your therapist will check in with you about what's working and what isn't.
What if I've tried therapy before and it didn't help? That happens, and it often comes down to fit rather than therapy itself not working. Our matching form or directory can help you find someone whose approach is different from what you've tried before.
Is what I say in therapy confidential?Yes, with limits your therapist will explain clearly at your first session — for example, situations involving risk of serious harm. Confidentiality is governed by Ontario's health privacy legislation (PHIPA).
